Magnificent burr walnut jewellery box.

A superb Victorian burr walnut jewellery box of impressive proportions. The carefully chosen burr walnut veneers cover the entire box, the edges banded all around with brass, the top and front further enhanced with brass lines. To the top there is a central vacant shield-shaped brass cartouche, to the front an oval keyhole escutcheon. The sides of the box have flush fitting brass carry handles.

The box opens to reveal the original interior, re-lined in a royal purple moir cotton fabric and complimentary luxurious purple silk velvet. (Note modern cameras insist on converting the purple to blue but it is definately a light cadbury / royal purple, the velvet a darker purple).

The two drawers swing out 90 degrees to reveal a further storage area beneath. To the rear of each a secret button releases a further small drawer beneath.

To the rear of the box a large brass button disguised as a name plaque releases the large lower drawer which retains it's original leather finish. To the right of the drawer another secret button releases the back panel revealing a further pair of drawers similarly re-lined.

The box comes complete with working lock & tassled key.

A truly spectacular box and very rare to find in burr walnut and of this scale.
