Superb Victorian coromandel jewellery box by S. Mordan & Co.

An exceptional Victorian coromandel jewellery box, the top and front profusely inlaid with brass lines and decorative brass engravings to the corners. The top with a star shaped vacant brass cartouche. The sides have inset brass carry handles. The whole box banded in brass edging.

The box opens to reveal the fully fitted original interior in Moroccan leather which has been re-lined in a luxurious deep blue silve velvet. The lift-out tray fitted various compartments revealing a further storage area beneath. To the left of the box a brass button releases the side drawer which has also been re-lined in silk velvet.

Inside the lid a secret buton behind the lock keep releases the original mirror with gilt decorated leather edging. The back of the mirror has been re-covered in matching ruched silk velvet. Mirror plate in good order with some period foxing. Behind the mirror is a leather document compartment.
