A rare and very unusual 19th century continental serpentine burr walnut table or jewellery box of large size. The top with tulipwood and geometric marquetry panel to the centre anf the four corners decorated with marquetry butterflies in tulipwood, sycamore and mother of pearl. The canted corners banded in tulipwood. The front has a carved walnut floral keyhole escutcheon.

The box opens to reveal the original interior, we have lined the lid and base with a plush red velvet.

With working lock & tassled key.
